Particularly :

• the dairy chain (Parmigiano-Reggiano and industrial milk).
• the pork chain (heavy and light pigs).
• the beef chain.
• the poultry chain.

From 1986 the sector has calculated annually the production costs as well as those related to milk and meat processing. In this way a continuous monitoring of the zootechnical companies competitiveness and that of the other companies involved in the production chain is being made. The comparison with the other EU countries costs allow to know the Italian competitiveness level.

The areas dealt with by the sector are the following:

• Economic monitoring of the animal production supply chains.
• Socio-economic analysis of the rural development.
• Economic evaluation of the agro-environmental regulations (Reg. 2078 e Agenda 2000 and AES).
• Annual calculation of the Reggio Emilia province net product.
• Environmental impact of the PDO e PGI products.
• Economic analysis of the organic livestock production.
• Evaluation of the mineral balances of livestock farms of the zootechnical companies.
• Territorial analysis of the agricultural activities with the related cartography.
• Economic evaluation of the animal welfare.

Furthermore the sector performs sector studies for regions and provinces dealing with problems related to local zootechnical development.
